4th week in communication

Time goes by and it’s nearly a month I have been learning about communication. For the first day of the week I have meet another wonderful trainer, Mr.Hisyam Ab Karim and as the introduction for the Arts of negotiation session he was able to break the ice easily between the trainees mainly because of his friendliness and easy-going personality which overwhelmed me and can makes me draw a smile throughout all the day with him. He introduces us to the agenda of the day as started the class; basically it’s all about negotiation and the needs. Everyone has negotiates in their life for just about anything, but sometimes when it was in a non-formal situations we tend to not realized it, thus we didn’t get the best result for the outcomes. So along the way he was explaining on how to make the process succeeded thus sharpen the skill. He said that the principal in negotiation is to really know your BATNA (Best alternative to negotiated agreement) and know when to say NO. He also did remind us that when ever we have a situation that involves negotiation we need to be clever in the way we fashioned because it’s really does effects. He thought us to be blend to the environment and situation of another party, for instances if we were having a negotiation with government agencies we need to blend with them by wearing the attire that suits their culture - As for women by wearing “baju kurung”, so that it will ease the process. After that for the exercise, he randomly gave us a topic to be work on in a larger group than we usually have. Our group need to work on a parent-son situation with the group being the parent sides and 2 representative acting as the parent to performs a so-called drama behind a camera. They really had got into the characters, it’s really fun to watch and I enjoyed every second of it. But unfortunately they failed to generate results after negotiating because during the process they were more like arguing than negotiating. After all I get the idea and will try my best to adapt the BATNA in future.

23-24 /03/10

Creative writing for biotech professionals. Its our two day session with Ms.Liew Suet Fun. I must admit I was really sleepy at the beginning of her speech and what I thought it was a really slow and boring morning as the explanation and intonation used didn’t really excites me. But then when she read us about a piece of her writing, I was really amazed that she actually have gets me feelings by the way it’s been wrote and I really think that was a great piece. She was previously a consultant but she got a real deep passion toward writing and make her dream become a reality when she quit and become a writer finally. She has written a couple of books and article that what I can say that it’s a world class quality. She also did bring the books to show to us and it’s fantastic. After delivering its expertise to share with us, we did exercise where we need to gave a comment to an article which is scientific but was written in a creative way for a layman understands. What we having that particular time were about the small world that was unseen; the bug’s world. Its was written by a person who does not even have a scientific background whereas he was a photographer, which makes sense that the photo was really nice and meticulous, I wonder how he’s able to capture such a small creature to its particular details. I wish I could master the skill. However, apart from nice photos, the content was really originals and we did some comments about the written style he used. It’s really a good practices and I could used it for what ever materials I reads. The second days we used all the skill we have to re-writes a scientific article and make it in a layman version. We did about mind-mapping techniques and re-write it creatively so that everyone could understand. At the end when she did the comment part our group has wrote it in a way that she thinks to pleasing, because there were no arguments about it and as we get paid to write all the good about it. It not a good way to done it. I have learn so much about how to write a scientific article in a layman version. The key is to humanize, to be metaphoric and don’t get scientifically detailed. We learn from the best.

25/ 03/10-NLP
Have you ever heard of NLP? Neuro linguistic program. Actually when I first saw the word on the daily schedule I wonder what we were going to learn. But ones you know it or maybe experienced it you will love it. We had the session with Mr. Faizal Kamal, he is a lawyer and the law officer in UIA and also a NLP practitioner. Its all about the mentality and the things that we received from our 5 senses could do with our mind thus results the physical action. This was something new to me although I have heard it in a slightly different version; it was something to do with hypnosis which was handled in a bad way. But today the concept was able to alter my perspective and it was real and fantastic, I was shocked to have experienced the events for the day.
During the activity the hypnosis activity , he wanted us to deeply go to our subconscious mind, but I was really highly conscious that time which he wants us to believe that there were a balloon and a concrete rock that were tied on our left and right hand. But because I was really alert, its doesn’t work on me, suppose to be our hand with heavy rock will slightly goes down and with balloon its goes up, but mind was in the same level. And I laugh after realizing that. But somehow when he were doing it again and this time he makes me believe that my hand we tied up together, the fact that I believed it makes me thinks that I was real and even though I struggling to untie it but I cant, I was panicked and nearly cried to able be hypnoses like that. I was an awesome experienced. Not only me, there were some of my friend were effected by deep emotional feeling and he droved them into sub-conscious mind and they were pouring with tears, he makes them cry non-stop for about 20 minutes. We also did some positive thinking by channeling our inside potential to a light bulb and it can break a thick glass because we believe in what we have thus makes the bulb strong to break that glass.
This session really leaves a great impact to me as he was fascinating me with hypnosis skill which could make us to realizes the dynamic and potential that we had, besides the believes that we had will resembles the action that we never think we could. This session really keep me to be positives and have the faith on what I believe to be a successful person.
